A Lebanese-Australian family is driving on a deserted road in rural Australia when they are stopped by a group of soldiers at a checkpoint. The father, Nedal, realizes that life and safety of his wife and daughter rests in his hands. Checkpoint captures contemporary concerns about the abuse of power and the increase in racism within modern Australia.
Ben Phelps majored in Film Studies, at the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia. Checkpoint is Ben’s distinctive film debut as a Writer/Director/Producer and has won the prestigious Jury Prize at the 30th Montreal World Film Festival and Best Achievement in Sound Design at Flickerfest Short Film Festival.
